Discover the vocational and technical careers with the best job opportunities in Québec

Choosing the Right Career

On HeadingForSuccess.com, “careers of the future” are those that require a diploma in vocational training at the secondary level or technical training at the college level and offer good or very good job prospects in the medium term.

Why choose a vocational or technical career?

According to Emploi-Québec’s most recent employment projections, more than 725 000 positions will have to be filled between 2013 and 2017, with nearly a third of the jobs requiring a diploma in vocational or technical training!

During this period, young people entering the labourlabour market will have many positions available to them due to employees leaving on retirement (approximately 543 100 openings) and economic growth (approximately 182 300 openings), and employment opportunities will increase in the majority of economic sectors in Québec.

Because of this, there will be a need for labour in many businesses across all economic sectors and all regions of Québec—a boon for young people interested in a vocational or technical career.

Are some careers for women and others for men?

Almost 300 vocational training (VT) and technical training (TT) programs are offered to meet the needs of both individuals and businesses. However, young men and women behave differently when choosing a career.

Don’t listen to everything you hear. Explore all the vocational and technical careers and choose the one you feel is right for you! Take the Aptitude Test. The results will lead you to explore trades and occupations you might not have otherwise considered.

The Hats Off to You! Competition

This competition is open to young women who dare to think outside the box by choosing a career traditionally occupied by men. The goal is to encourage those who make different choices and recognize that they have a place in traditionally male-dominated training programs.
