Civil engineering technologists and technicians provide technical support and services to scientists, engineers and other professionals, or may work independently in fields such as structural engineering, municipal engineering, construction design and supervision, highways and transportation engineering, water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering and environmental protection. They are employed by consulting engineering and construction companies, public works, transportation and other government departments and in many other industries.
Main duties :
Civil engineering technologists
- develop engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts and sketches;
- prepare construction specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports;
- supervise or conduct field surveys, inspections or technical investigations of topography, soils, drainage and water supply systems, road and highway systems, buildings and structures to provide data for engineering projects.
Civil engineering technicians
- assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings;
- participate in field surveys, inspections or technical investigations of topography, soils, drainage and water supply systems, road and highway systems, buildings and structures to provide data for engineering projects;
- perform other technical functions in support of civil engineering project.

Program Objectives
Le programme d'études Techniques d'aménagement et d'urbanisme vise à former des personnes aptes à exercer la profession de technicienne ou technicien en aménagement du territoire et celle d'inspectrice municipale et d'inspecteur municipal. La technicienne ou le technicien en aménagement du territoire travaille au sein d'organismes publics et parapublics ou d'entreprises privées. Elle ou il collabore avec les urbanistes, les architectes, les ingénieures et ingénieurs et les arpenteuses-géomètres ou arpenteurs-géomètres à la planification d'interventions sur le territoire. L'inspectrice municipale ou l'inspecteur municipal travaille dans les municipalités locales ou régionales. Le travail de l'inspectrice municipale ou de l'inspecteur municipal est varié et il diffère selon la taille de la municipalité.

The Building Systems Technology program trains technicians to ensure the proper functioning of building systems and to manage the related energy costs. Building systems technicians work on plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and fire protection systems, some of which are equipped with electrical controls and automatic control circuits.

Program Objectives
Architectural Technologists contribute to the development and completion of an architectural project or assist throughout its construction, as defined by the Architects Act, the Engineers Act, the Public Buildings Safety Act and the Professional Code. They may therefore produce drawings and promotional material, design construction details, write specifications, estimate construction costs, coordinate construction work, inspect the condition of an existing building, verify building compliance with laws, standards and the construction code, and contribute to maintaining the quality of an architectural heritage. The scope and the volume of tasks vary according to the type of business, and the type of work, and whether the individual occupies a salaried position or is self-employed.
