Description :

Supervisors in this unit group supervise and co-ordinate the activities of workers in the following groups: Pulping, Papermaking and Coating Control Operators, Machine Operators and Related Workers in Pulp and Paper Production and Wood Processing and Manufacturing and Labourers in Wood, Pulp and Paper Processing. They are employed by pulp and paper companies, paper converting companies, sawmills, planing mills, wood treatment plants, waferboard plants and other wood processing companies.

Main duties :

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of workers who operate pulp and paper mills, paper converting mills, sawmills, planing mills, plywood, waferboard and other wood and paper products mills
  • Ensure that systems and equipment are operating efficiently and that proper maintenance and repairs are performed
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality
  • Requisition materials and supplies
  • Train staff in job duties, safety procedures and company policies
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hirings and promotions and administer the collective agreement
  • Prepare production and other reports
  • Monitor safety conditions
  • May set up machines and equipment.

Program Objectives

Former des spécialistes capables d'exécuter, de contrôler et de diriger les travaux relatifs à la transformation de la matière ligneuse, soit : le sciage, le déroulage, le rabotage, le débitage, le jointage et le collage, le conditionnement, le séchage et d'autres types de transformation.

Les technologues en transformation des produits forestiers ont également à gérer l'arrivage de la matière première, à analyser les procédés, à spécifier les normes d'exploitation, à participer au contrôle des opérations de la qualité des produits, à surveiller les inventaires et les expéditions ainsi qu'à superviser le personnel.

Program Objectives

Le programme Technologies de transformation de la cellulose vise former des techniciens et des techniciennes aptes à intervenir aux différentes étapes de la production des pâtes, des papiers et des cartons.

Le travail de ces techniciens et techniciennes consiste principalement à effectuer le contrôle de la qualité associé aux divers aspects de la production, assurer le fonctionnement des unités de production, à collaborer des travaux relatifs au suivi environnemental de la production, à la résolution des problèmes de production ainsi qu'à l'optimisation des procédés, et à fournir une assistance technique aux équipes de travail.
