Description :

Automotive service technicians and truck mechanics inspect, diagnose, repair and service mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and components of cars, buses, and light and commercial transport trucks. They are employed by motor vehicle dealers, garages and service stations, automotive specialty shops, transportation companies and retail establishments which have automotive service shops.

Main duties :

  • review work orders and discuss work with supervisor;
  • inspect motor in operation, road test motor vehicle, and test automotive systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to diagnose and isolate faults;
  • adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems including fuel, brake, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment;
  • advise customers on work performed, general vehicle conditions and future repair requirements.

Automobile Mechanics

Program length : 2 years

Program Objectives

Perform preventive and corrective mechanic work, inspect vehicles with the goal of identifying, finding the cause and the source of operating problems; performing repairs, replacing parts and making adjustments on different vehicle systems, operating tests, procedure for installing accessories and optional equipment and adhering to health, safety and environmental laws and regulations.

Program Objectives

Le programme d'études Mécanique de véhicules lourds routiers vise à former des personnes aptes à exercer la profession de mécanicienne et mécanicien de véhicules lourds routiers. Ainsi, les apprentissages s'effectuent en atelier sur des composants mécaniques et électriques, ainsi que sur des systèmes conventionnels et ordinés de véhicules lourds routiers.

Les mécaniciennes et mécaniciens sont appelés à effectuer des travaux de mécanique préventive et corrective, à vérifier des véhicules dans le but de cerner des problèmes de fonctionnement, d'en rechercher la cause et d'en localiser la source, à effectuer des réparations, des remplacements et des réglages et à procéder à des essais de fonctionnement.
