Description :
Correctional service officers guard prisoners and detainees and maintain order in correctional institutions and other places of detention. They are employed by federal, provincial and municipal governments.
Main duties :
- observe conduct and behaviour of prisoners to prevent disturbances and escapes
- supervise prisoners during work assignments, meals and recreation periods
- patrol assigned area and report any problems to supervisor
- observe behaviour of prisoners and prepare reports
- escort prisoners in transit and during temporary leaves
- prepare admission, program, release, transfer and other reports
- may supervise and co-ordinate work of other correctional service officers.

Youth and Adult Correctional Intervention
Program length: 3 years
Program Objectives
The Youth and Adult Correctional Intervention program trains technicians in the fields of delinquency prevention and the social integration of delinquents, working with delinquents both before they commit offences and after the application of court decisions or non-judicial measures. The technician will have daily interaction directly with youth and adults both before and after a delinquent act, with both men and women, or with victims of a criminel act. The technician will work in closed environments, semi- and open environments, mainly in provincial or federal detention facilities, residential centres, youth centres or different community organizations.
